(Philae Temple, Unfinished Obelisk and High Dam)
Start your full day tour to the amazing southern city in Egypt by visiting One of Nubia’s most important monument sites, the Temples of Philae, 12 kilometers south of Aswan, was an ancient pilgrimage center for the cult of Isis and dazzled travelers with its power for centuries. This sacred site was venerated from the Pharaonic era up to the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler adding their own stamp onto the stones here. Saved from a watery grave by UNESCO’s rescue project, which transferred the monuments block by block from Philae Island to Angelika Island, today, the temples continue to work their charm on all who visit.
Your Tour Guide Will escort you to the unfinished obelisk which is the largest known ancient obelisk and is located in the northern region of the stone quarries of ancient Egypt in Aswan, Archaeologists claim the female pharaoh known as Hatshepsut sanctioned its construction. However, modern engineers question as to whether the Dynastic Egyptians could have achieved this task.
It is nearly one third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever erected. If finished it would have measured around 42 m (approximately 137 feet) and would have weighed nearly 1,200 tons. Aside from the problem of shaping it, how were they presuming to lift it out of the quarry?
At the end
Prepare yourself for a particularly overwhelming sightseeing experience: the Aswan High Dam is truly impressive. The Dam is 3600 meters long, 980 meters thick at base and 111 meters tall (at its highest point).High dam volume equals 17 times Giza Pyramid The waters of Lake Nasser, the world’s largest man-made lake, have amassed behind it.
